Evet, 12 Eylül bugün…

 

Faşist diktatör Kenan Evren’in komutasında Türkiye’de tüm demokratik kitle örgütlerinin rafa kaldırıldığı askeri darbenin de 42’inci yıldönümü bugün…

 

Siyasal erkin verdiği iç güvenlik sorumluluğunu yerine getirmemiştir Kenan Evren Türkiye’nin yönetimine el koyabilmek için…

 

En büyük işkenceyi, şiddet ve baskıyı öğretmenler üzerinde kurmuştur 12 Eylül cunta yönetimi.

 

O karanlık dönemde birçok öğretmen çeşitli işkencelerden geçirilmiştir. Yasal derneklere üye olan öğretmenler dahi çeşitli düzmece suçlarla itham edilmiştir. Öğretmenlerin 3.854’ü hakkında soruşturma açılmış ve bu öğretmenlerin büyük çoğunluğu açığa alınmıştır.

 

Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı bünyesinde 1980 yılında yaklaşık 297 bin öğretmen görev yapmaktaydı. Her yüz öğretmenden 1,3 ü suçlu muamelesi gördü o dönemde.

 

Oysa 12 Eylül darbesi yönetimi süresi içerisinde halka dışkı yediren, işkence yapanlar ya cezasız kaldı, ya da çok az bir ceza ile kurtuldular…

 

Darbeyi yapan askeri cunta yönetiminin hayatta kalan üyeleri Kenan Evren ve Tahsin Şahinkaya hakkında “insanlığa karşı suçlar” nedeniyle 2012 yılında dava açılarak 2014 yılında müebbet hapse mahkûm edildiler. Rütbeleri sökülerek orgenerallikten erliğe düşürüldüler.

 

Toplumun en masum kesimi öğretmenlerdir…

 

Özel Sektör Öğretmenler Sendikası’nın yakın zamanda Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı önünde en demokratik ve anayasal hakları olan basın açıklaması yapmak isterlerken, öğretmenlere biber gazı sıkılması kabul edilemez bir durumdur…

Ayrıca bir bayan öğretmene nobranca davranan polis memurunun: “Al bunu” demesi tam bir yobazlık örneğidir.

 

Akıllara şu soru da gelmiyor değil:

-12 Eylül süreci hala devam mı ediyor öğretmenler üzerinde?

 

Demokratik bir toplum yaratmanın yolu, öğretmenin derse girdiği sınıfında demokratik bir sınıf ortamı ve demokratik bir atmosfer oluşturmasıyla mümkündür…

 

Diktatöryal bir öğretmen tutumuyla demokratik bir sınıf ve dolayısıyla demokratik bir toplumun oluşturulamayacağını öğretmenler gayet iyi bilir…

 

Demokratik bir sınıf ortamı oluşturmaya gayret sarf eden öğretmene çok ender de olsa sınıf düzenini ve ahengini bozan, diktatöryal tutumlar sergileyen öğrenci tiplerine yönelik öğretmenlerin son çare olarak kullandıkları yaygın bir ifadeyi de belirtelim:

-“Otur yerine terbiyesiz…”

 

Bir gece yarısı 12 Eylül 1980 sabahı saat 03.00 sularında bir düdük çalarak demokratik kitle örgütlerinin tümünü silip süpüren darbeci generallerle “Al bunu” diyen polis de büyük bir olasılıkla öğretmeninden “Otur yerine terbiyesiz” azarını işitmiş olmalıdır.

 

-Öğretmenlerin “Otur yerine terbiyesiz” ifadesini gerektirmeyen, eğitim yoluyla demokratik öğrencilerin oluşturduğu sınıf ortamlarının gerçekleştirilmesi…

Ve…

-öğretmenlerin “Al bunu” söylemiyle bir bayan öğretmeni derdest eden polis tiplerinin yetişmesinin eğitim yoluyla önlenmesini sağlayarak “demokratik bir toplumsal yapıyı inşa” edebilmek de tüm öğretmenlerin uhde ve sorumluluğundadır…

 

Faşist diktatör Kenan Evrenin de, “Al bunu” diyen polisin de birer öğretmen eseri olduğu gerçeği gözden ırak tutulmamalıdır…

 

Tüm Türkiye’de demokratik bir toplum inşa etmek amacıyla 19 milyonluk bir öğrenci kitlesini canla başla eğitecek 1,2 milyonluk öğretmen kitlesinin yeni eğitim öğretim yılının başarılı ve hayırlı geçmesini diliyor; tüm öğretmen arkadaşlarımı saygıyla selamlıyorum…

BACK TO SCHOOL – SEPTEMBER 12 – TAKE HER AWAY

Today is September 12, 2022...

It marks the beginning of a new school year.

The 2022–2023 academic year commences today...

This year, approximately 19 million students and 1.2 million teachers will begin classes in all public and private schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education.

The total number of students and teachers in Turkey stands at 20.2 million.

This means that one in every four people in Turkey is either a student or a teacher.

If we were to rank the number of students and teachers in Turkey among the populations of countries worldwide, they would occupy the 57th position on the list.

What an extraordinary potential for our future…

An immense body of students and teachers…

Our greatest and most vital resource: human capital.

So then...

• Who are at the center of educational activities?

— The student body.

• And who assumes the role of educator?

— The teaching staff.

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk addressed the teacher body with the following words:

“Teachers! The new generation will be your masterpiece.”

Therefore, we are each the product of our teachers. So too is our society...

Due to the very nature of their profession, teachers are closely integrated with and visible within all layers of society.

Compared to teachers, police officers and soldiers are far more isolated from society.

It is no coincidence that this year, the opening of schools falls on September 12.

Indeed, September 12 evokes strong associations with military coups.

Today marks the 42nd anniversary of the military coup in Turkey that, under the command of fascist dictator Kenan Evren, suspended all democratic mass organizations.

In order to seize control of the government, Kenan Evren deliberately failed to fulfill the internal security responsibilities delegated to him by the political authorities.

The greatest level of torture, violence, and repression during the September 12 military regime was inflicted upon teachers.

During that dark period, many teachers were subjected to brutal torture. Even those affiliated with legal unions and associations were accused of fabricated crimes. Investigations were launched against 3,854 teachers, the majority of whom were suspended from duty.

In 1980, approximately 297,000 teachers were employed under the Ministry of National Education. Thus, 1.3 out of every 100 teachers was treated as a criminal during that period.

By contrast, those who forced citizens to eat excrement or committed acts of torture during the military rule either went unpunished or received only minor sentences.

In 2012, a lawsuit was filed against surviving members of the military junta, Kenan Evren and Tahsin Şahinkaya, on the grounds of crimes against humanity. In 2014, they were both sentenced to life imprisonment and were demoted from the rank of general to that of private.

Teachers represent the most innocent segment of society.

Recently, when members of the Private Sector Teachers’ Union attempted to hold a peaceful press statement—a fundamental and constitutional right—outside the Ministry of National Education, they were attacked with pepper spray, an absolutely unacceptable act.

Moreover, a police officer’s harsh command to a female teacher—“Take her away!”—constitutes a blatant act of bigotry.

This raises an important question:

Does the shadow of the September 12 coup still loom over teachers today?

Creating a democratic society is only possible when teachers establish a democratic environment in their classrooms.

Teachers are well aware that a dictatorial approach cannot produce democratic classrooms, nor a democratic society.

Occasionally, in response to rare instances of students who disrupt the classroom atmosphere and adopt authoritarian behavior, teachers resort to a common phrase as a last resort:

“Sit down and behave yourself!”

It would not be far-fetched to assume that both the generals who swept away democratic institutions with a whistle at 3:00 AM on September 12, 1980, and the police officer who shouted “Take her away”, had likely once been reprimanded by their teachers with the phrase:

“Sit down and behave yourself!”

The responsibility of building a democratic classroom environment where such reprimands become unnecessary, and of preventing the emergence of authoritarian figures through education, falls upon the shoulders of all teachers.

We must not forget that both the fascist dictator Kenan Evren and the police officer who said “Take her away” are ultimately products of teachers.

With this in mind, I extend my best wishes for a successful and productive school year to the 1.2 million-strong teaching force who will dedicate themselves to educating a student body of 19 million, all in service of building a democratic society in Turkey.
